That would be great. I'm in the process of
downloading fedora 9 via bittorrent, but I'm not sure
the old machine can load it; I'll have to see. In
the meanwhile, having a bootable redhat would be nice
(most of the copies I've gotten won't boot)

Ok, sorry to jump into this so late, but some sanity
checking is needed at
this point.
Red Hat 5.2 is OLD OLD OLD. 2.2.x kernel
Red Hat 7.2 is also OLD OLD OLD. 2.4.9-x kernel.
(This is the release RHEL 2.1 was based on).
F8 and F9 are 2.6.x kernels. There's an extremely
slim chance that
anything you develop on an F8 of F9 machine will back
port, but the odds
are highly stacked against you. Personal opinion is
that F9 is not stable
enough to run. I'm still on F8 because the F9 trees
are too buggy to make
me a happy frood.
I'm pretty sure I can get hold of 5.2 media, but
you're on your own for
installing and supporting it as We (meaning Red Hat)
discontinued support
for it long ago.
Let me pull it from the vault and I'll email you
privately with a url.
Sound like a plan?
