[Luna] The Future of LUNA

Does anyone know if the NAU ACM chapter is active? The last message on
their website was posted in 2004.
(http://www.cet.nau.edu/Orgs/ACM/?page=mesgs) There's no one subscribed
to the main ACM listserve for NAU. (I was going to say that the ACM's
mandate is a bit broader than OSS/GNU/Linux but it appears that's a moot
point.)

Take the following with the caveat that I've only attended 4 meetings
(but I have lurked on the list for many years)....

My biggest complaint about Luna has been it's limited focus. Flagstaff
is a small town and it's hard to sustain a technical interest group.
Luna's historically strong focus on Linux System Administration has
meant it's been of little interest to me.

For me Linux is a tool I use to get my job done - it's not the end all.
It's kind of like carpenters getting together and talking about the
hammer they are using but failing to mention the house they are
building. There's people at USGS doing interesting stuff that has
nothing to do with Linux - I would love to hear about it. I could give
presentations on porting the GNU toolchain, or a tutorial on subversion
or how we spent $25 million on a internet company and have nothing to
show for it. I would like to hear someone talk about Microsoft's
trusted computing platform. Many of these things have nothing to do
with Linux/OSS/GNU but would make for interesting meetings. By limiting
the focus you're limiting Luna's future.
