Internship - Web Developer

Position:	Web developer
Salary:	$13.06 / Per Hour
Duration:	Temporary, Full year

Description:	The student will perform a variety of computer-based tasks, in addition to some general clerical and support duties. These duties will include writing and/or maintaining HTML and XML formatted content; writing and/or modifying existing web and software applications written in Perl, Java, JavaScript, PHP, and other languages; working with and/or creating media, graphics, and other data files; testing internet content and applications for accuracy, correctness, and client compatibility; analyzing and/or manipulate data for server performance, interface performance and usability, application testing, and database population; generating accurate and thorough documentation. The student may need to create and maintain databases and database applications, and create and/or maintain web-based applications that interface to databases. The student will work directly with project scientists and IT staff, and receive general guidance from IT and/or science staff members.

Interships - Computer Programmer

Position:	Computer Programmer Basic
Salary:	$11.63 / Per Hour
Duration:	Temporary, Full year

Description:	The student will be expected to perform a variety of computer-based tasks, in addition to some general clerical and support duties. These duties will include writing Unix shell scripts that run various software applications, writing and/or modifying existing software applications written in C++, C and Java, executing scientific applications and generating accurate and thorough documentation, and assist in the porting of software to various computer platforms including Solaris, Linux and Mac OS X. The student will work directly with project scientists and IT staff and receive detailed guidance from senior level IT and/or science staff members. Skills/Requirements: The student is required to have at least one year of experience in the Unix computing environment. The student will be required to have a general knowledge of the Windows-based environment. Programming experience in one or more of the Unix shells, PERL, C++, C, Java and/or FORTRAN are highly desirable. The student will need to be task-oriented and well organized. Thorough documentation of procedures used and applied to perform the work will be requested. All data and production material will remain the property of the USGS.
